Description/Blazon

SHIELD

Argent, a sea-griffin Gules holding in its claws a torch Or enflamed Proper; an orle Azure (Dark Blue).


CREST

Surmounting an unfurled American flag Proper, the Betsy Ross Flag displaying a circle of thirteen mullets, tassled Or, a demi-horse erect Argent langued Gules.


MOTTO

A tripartite motto scroll Argent garnished Azure and inscribed FAST FOCUSED FEARLESS.


SEAL

The device as blazoned on a White field within a Dark Blue oval designation band edged on the outside with stylized Silver-color steel cable and inscribed at top USS FREEDOM and in base LCS 1, all in White letters.


Symbolism

SHIELD

The sea-griffin represents sea-power with vigilance, intelligence and resolve. It carries a torch denoting leadership and enlightenment. The shield color, Argent, signifies integrity and determination in carrying out mission goals, the Dark Blue enclosing orle represents unity and coordination of resources and personnel expertise. Scarlet denotes courage and sacrifice; Gold indicates excellence.


CREST

The demi-horse symbolizes speed and responsiveness to mission demands. The period American flag represents the United States and Navy traditions in defense of the nation throughout its history.
